TIPS FOR TRANSITIONING PIECES FOR FALL AND WINTER

It may officially be fall, but the temps are still pretty back and forth here on the coast. During the day it can be super hot (some days still feel’s like 70!) while other day’s and most nights are sooo chilly (which I LOVE bcuzz COZY!!).

That means it can be pretty difficult to decide what to wear, so, I wanted to share some of my favorite transitional fall pieces that can be easily layered when the temps start to drop.

My go-to shoe’s lately have been the a good pair of cowboy boots- my white Billini boots are a regular. These boots are really such a great investment. Not only are they perfect for winter, but I’ve also used them throughout summer with shorts or a dress so they’re getting their monies worth.

LOOKING FOR MORE TRANSITIONAL FOOTWEAR OPTIONS?

If you’re wanting to be even more on-trend, biker boots or red boots are it and I’m so excited to see how these are being styled. Needing something more professional? Investing in a cute pair of loafers are perfect. They can be dressed down for the weekend or dressed up for your time in the office! Ballet flats and Birkenstocks are coming back around so be sure to find some you love this fall!

TIPS FOR TRANSITIONING YOUR WARDROBE TO FALL

1. SHORTS/MINI SKIRT + SWEATERS

One of my favorite things about the temps dropping is getting to bring out all my cozy sweaters and sweatshirts and layer them with my shorts and skirts/skorts. There’s just something about this outfit that is so comfortable and effortless, I just love it. There’s really no wrong way to rock it either, denim shorts and your favorite oversized crew neck sweatshirt, or for a more office friendly look, opt for a tailored short and a cozy turtleneck sweater. Wanting to make use of those midi skirts + skorts just a little longer? Toss on an oversized striped sweater. I love this plaid mini skirt from Old Navy- gives such great fall vibes. If you’re not ready for a full sweater, sweater vests are the way to go- perfect to layer with a button down shirt or wear as is! As the temps drop you can start to add tights and boots to carry these looks deeper into fall.

2. SWEATER/SWEATSHIRT OVER A MAXI DRESS OR MIDI SKIRT.

Just because summer is over doesn’t mean you have to put away your favorite skirts and dresses. Denim and cargo midi skirts are super on trend right now for fall. Transition your maxi dresses + full length skirts into fall by layering with sweaters and pullovers for a super cute layered look. try adding a belt and some booties, and tons on a denim jacket (or leather jacket for an edgier look with some leather booties).

3. LAYER, LAYER, LAYER

When I say layering, think more than the classic layering we were taught before going outside in the cold - We all know that wearing layers, like tee shirts under sweastshirts, or long sleeves under vests or jackets, is best when the weather is unpredictable so that you can “shed” appropriately. However, one of my favorite ways to layer is by doing the unexpected. The runway’s and streets at NYFW were filled with so much real world inspo that gave me so many ideas, like layering mock neck and turtle neck tees under dresses or with jumpsuits/rompers.

Now is the time to invest in a statement-Making Jacket, one that you can carry well into fall. Introduce it to your end of summer wardrobe by layering with denim cut off’s and hoodie like in tip one, or your favorite mini skirt when the temps are just starting to dip. Then once the weather hits cold enough, opt for this piece to pull together any outfit, even if its sweats and sneakers (you’ll be surprised how cute that is, trust me).

4. OPT FOR DEEPER COLORS.

Pulling deeper colors like burgundy, browns, tans, greens and navy into your wardrobe will naturally take the bright, summery feel out of your outfits and make them feel a bit more “fall-y”. Think of the colors you’d see in nature during fall and opt for subtle shades of those tones, you won’t go wrong!
